services & approach

Diverse & Thriving offers telehealth therapy for all ages,
as well as walk & talk therapy for those near the Clarinda area.

Our in-home therapy is reserved for children.

We offer mental health support for those experiencing depression, anxiety,  ASD, ADHD, developmental differences, self-esteem, self-compassion and emotional regulation challenges, and other mental health struggles.

Here is some more information on the approaches we specialise in.

neurodivergent
affirming therapy

As a late-diagnosed neurodivergent person herself, our therapist Shelley understands the unique skills and the unique challenges that come with this.

We aren't interested in 'fixing' you – because you're not broken! We want to support you to work with your brain, identify its strengths and accommodate its needs with neurodivergent-friendly psychological strategies and supports.

We provide a space free of judgement and shame where you can be yourself, have your lived experience acknowledged and valued, understand that you are not alone and learn to thrive in day-to-day life with reduced stress and overwhelm.

LGBTQIA+
affirming therapy

Led by a proud queer therapist, Diverse & Thriving wholeheartedly embraces and supports the LGBTQIA+ community.

We understand and acknowledge the challenges of living in a heteronormative and cisnormative society, including the experiences of homophobia, transphobia, exploring your identity, navigating the 'coming out' experience, workplace issues, and complex family relationships.

We affirm who you are, wherever you may be on your journey, and we support and accept relationships and families of all forms.

parent support

If you want to support your child who is LGBTQIA+ but are feeling overwhelmed or unsure of how to do that, we would love to provide a safe space for you navigate this experience.

If you are a parent of a neurodivergent child or a neurodivergent person yourself who needs help with the overwhelming demands of parenting, we would love to provide you with tailored support to help you and your children thrive.

We understand that you know your family best and we seek to validate your lived experience and work with you to develop neurodivergent-friendly parenting strategies, maintain and prioritise your wellbeing in balance with looking after your children, navigate advocating for your family within systems and communities, reframe unhelpful perspectives on neurodivergence and create a healthy and fulfilling family life.

Career & vocational coaching

Our career and vocational coaching services are tailored to help you achieve your professional and/or study goals.

We understand that there can be many hurdles between you and the fulfilling career you desire, but you don't have to face these alone.

Whether you need help clarifying your direction and goals, job searching, boosting your confidence and reducing imposter syndrome, creating organisational strategies that suit your unique brain, seeking support or accommodations, or prepping for an upcoming interview, we would be honoured to help. All workplaces benefit from diversity and therefore we bring our affirming approach to this coaching as well.

group therapy

We run telehealth group therapy sessions covering a range of topics, all from a neuro-affirming and LGBTQIA+-affirming lens.

Not only can group therapy offer a more affordable means of accessing therapeutic support, but it also provides the unique benefits of learning from a range of perspectives and normalising our struggles through shared experiences.

Walk & talk therapy

Green space, gentle exercise and time spent outdoors in natural light are all super beneficial for mental health (particularly for neurodivergent brains). If you can travel to a public park near Clarinda (Melbourne, Victoria) our therapist Shelley would love to have a walk and talk session with you.

For some people, walking side by side can make talking, reflection and emotional processing easier. Walking can also be a helpful self-regulation tool and combat the feeling of being stuck. For others, sitting in green space and talking face-to-face might be the way to go. Shelley is happy to adapt to what you feel like on the day.

in-home therapy for kids

Our therapist Shelley has a decade of experience working with children with a range of developmental differences and mental health challenges.

She is passionate about supporting children's development, so she is providing limited spaces for in-home therapy for children who are too young or don't have the capacity to engage in telehealth therapy. This is available for those living within a 10km radius of Clarinda (Melbourne, Victoria).

If you are outside of this area or looking for a more cost-effective option, Shelley works with therapy assistants through NDIS who can provide in-home therapy under her supervision. Email us at admin@diverseandthriving.com.au.

testimonials

“We feel like we hit jackpot when we discovered Shelley. Her warmth and kindness is ever present and was evident from our first meeting. She connects and engages so well that our little boy has had no idea he’s having therapy. Therapy time is one of his favourite parts of the week and I’ve been able to relax as a parent, knowing his wellbeing and development is in such knowledgeable, capable hands. Shelley has worked with us for 3 years now and our boys’s development is beyond what we could ever have imagined."
